Ubud
Our week of spiritual enlightenment in tranquil Ubud. Or this is how we were imagining our week would be. Turns out every tourist known to man has heard of Ubud, sorry let me clarify this, every hippy known to man has heard of Ubud.
Ubud |
Once we let our expectations go we truly did enjoy our time.
We stayed in Tebo home stay which cost us 11 AUD per night. Here we met our new friends Princess Fiona from Melbourne and Louisa from Germany. However as we weren’t close to the sea and Tebo house didn’t have a pool so we promptly moved to Suarsena House bungalows. And let’s just clarify they were not bungalows but Bali being Bali you can advertise as you please.
Our favourite part of Ubud was cheap food (for our standards so far) 1.50 AUD for vegetarian soup.. what’s not to like? Ubud truly is a vegan a vegetarian oasis. However we tended to eat at the warungs (local eateries) because as soon as you go into a raw vegan cafe the prices sky rocket- well for Bali prices anyway.
Yoga everyday was part of the menu. Yoga Saraswati was the place for us, purely for the 5 AUD cost a class. You can buy a 10 pack which were able to share between the both of us.
Campuhan Ridge Walk |
We yet again splurged (this whole budget thing isn’t working out to well) and had a reiki healing session at Karsa Spa, 10 AUD pp. This is situated at the top of Campuhan Ridge Walk and surrounded by rice fields. Which sounds idyllic, well what wasn’t so tranquil is that a ridge means it’s on top of a hill. Turns out when hiking in the middle of the day in Bali you sweat. It’s fair to say that the Reiki Healers? Masters? Gurus? Had a fair treat when Luke and I walked through the doors.
That being said it was a nice time to relax, recuperate and get ready for our lunch as Karsa Cafe. Here we sat in a little Balinese pergola on water overlooking a sensational view whilst eating nasi goreng and fresh coconuts.

I also failed to mention that Luke was a trooper throughout this day as he managed to experience his first bout of Bali belly.
Luke the male model with bali belly, making anything and everything fashionable |
Whilst Luke was supporting his Bali belly we caught up with Jahnava (our beautiful friend from Adelaide) for an awesome chat fest and yet again another feast.
As always it was time to move on. Luke and I caught a 6 AUD shuttle to Padang Bai on the East coast of Bali. As one week away from salty water really was just too much for us.
Love,
Claire and Luke (Luke was swimming in the pool close by as I wrote this, so that counts as a co-author right?)
